It is our great pleasure to invite you to join Metabolic Engineering VIII to be held in beautiful Jeju Island, Korea in June 13-18, 2010. Metabolic Engineering is the longest running conference of its kind, which has been held every two years. The main theme of Metabolic Engineering VIII is “Metabolic Engineering for Green Growth”. We have recently been experiencing severe financial crisis, which affected many industrial sectors worldwide. Furthermore, environmental problems including global warming are urging us to change the current industrial system to a more sustainable one. In order to address these issues, many countries are working together to establish strategies for GREEN GROWTH. Biotechnology is a key driver for this, and metabolic engineering will be playing increasingly important, and in fact essential, roles in developing such sustainable industries. The conference theme “Metabolic Engineering for Green Growth” is covered in a MATRIX format: (rows) systems biology, synthetic biology, biochemical engineering, tools and methods, and emerging techniques, (columns) drug, biofuel, biorefinery, environmental biotechnology, microbial system, mammalian system, plant system, and other disciplines and applications. We hope that you will join us to share the most state-of-the-art science and technology in metabolic engineering. We believe that this conference will be a successful showcase of what we have done and what we can do by metabolic engineering for the green growth of our world. We would like to welcome you all to Metabolic Engineering VIII.
