Dear Colleagues:
Recent advances in systems biology are enabling us to undertake biological research at the global scale toward a goal of understanding the cell, organism, and their interactions with the environment as a whole. Our favorite organism Escherichia coli is at the center of these activities. Following the successful IECA conferences held in Japan (2003) and Canada (2004), I am happy to announce that the third IECA Conference on Systems Biology, IECA 2006, will be held from October 31 to November 3, 2006, in beautiful Jeju Island, Republic of Korea.
IECA 2006 will bring together scientists, engineers, businessmen, and policy makers in order to consolidate global efforts to understand and employ a living bacterial cell at systems level. The conference will not only cover the basic systems biological research on E. coli, but also the use of E. coli in various biotechnological developments. Also, focus will be given to the generation of an in silico E. coli cell, which, when combined with various -omics studies, can provide us with new tools for better understanding of the metabolic, genetic, regulatory and signaling circuits of E. coli. I believe that IECA 2006 made possible by the active participation of all International E. coli alliance members and colleagues world-wide will be a successful showcase of what we have done and what we really can do with E. coli and other living cells. I would like to welcome you all to IECA 2006.
Sang Yup Lee
Chairman of IECA 2006
